You Built the Tax Team—But Who’s Going to Train Them?

Why Tax Business Owners Have to Stop Doing Everything Themselves to Scale

Building a tax business and scaling a tax business are two different things.

In the beginning, you may be able to do almost everything yourself. You prepare the returns. You answer the phone. You handle the clients. You market the business. You solve the problems.

Then the business begins to grow.

You bring on preparers. You add clients. You create systems. You start thinking bigger.

But there is one question many Tax Business Owners eventually have to answer:

Who is going to train the team?

Because hiring people is only the beginning.

Your Team Needs More Than Software Training

Teaching someone where to click inside tax software is not the same as teaching them how to prepare a tax return.

Your preparers need to understand the tax law behind the return.

What happens when a client has a complicated dependent situation?

Does your preparer understand how to determine the correct filing status?

Can they properly work through a Schedule C?

Do they understand Due Diligence requirements?

Can they recognize when the information a taxpayer provides doesn't make sense and additional questions need to be asked?

Your software can calculate a return.

Your software cannot replace a trained Tax Professional.

And when you're the Tax Business Owner, the knowledge of the people preparing returns for your company matters.

Your Team Represents Your Business

Every preparer you bring onto your team becomes an extension of your business.

Clients may not distinguish between the owner and the new preparer sitting across from them.

They simply know they came to your company to have their tax return prepared.

That means the questions your preparers ask matter.

Their documentation matters.

Their understanding of tax law matters.

Their approach to Due Diligence matters.

And ultimately, how your team operates can affect the reputation and compliance of the entire business.

That's why team training shouldn't be something you wait to think about once tax season begins.

But Who Has Time to Create All This Training?

This is where many growing Tax Business Owners get stuck.

You're already trying to:

Recruit your team.

Market your business.

Set up systems.

Prepare your office.

Build your client list.

Manage your staff.

Stay current on tax law changes.

Prepare yourself for another tax season.

And now you're supposed to create an entire training program too?

At some point, something has to come off your plate.

Scaling Means You Don't Have to Be Everything

One of the biggest shifts that happens when you move from being a Tax Preparer to becoming a true Tax Business Owner is understanding that everything does not have to be done by you.

Delegation is part of growth.

Getting help doesn't mean you don't know how to do something.

It means you understand that your time as the owner has value.

You still need to lead your team.

You still need to establish expectations.

You still need systems and accountability.

But you don't necessarily have to personally create and teach every training lesson your team needs.

Sometimes the better business decision is to find someone who can help you carry that responsibility.

Build the Team. I'll Train Them.

That's exactly why Dr. Gwennetta Wright created the Build the Team. I'll Train Them. 4-Week Group Tax Team Training Program.

This program was designed for Tax Business Owners who are building teams but don't have the time—or simply don't want the responsibility—of creating all of their team's tax training themselves.

Over four weeks, teams will receive training in three important areas:

📚 Basic Tax Law

💼 Schedule C

🛡️ Due Diligence

Tax Business Owners with teams of 20 people or fewer can enroll their entire team for $997.

If you have a full team of 20, that comes to $49.85 per person.

Training begins October 6.

Don't Wait Until Tax Season to Find the Gaps

January is not the time to discover that a preparer doesn't understand something they should have learned before the season started.

It's much better to identify questions, strengthen knowledge, and establish expectations before clients begin walking through the door.

If you've already built your team but training is still sitting on your to-do list, this may be the opportunity to finally check it off.

You don't have to be everything in your business.

You build the team. Lead the business. Let Dr. Gwennetta Wright help you train them.
